WILD KAT ADVENTURE

SUMMER HOLIDAYS

Wild Kat Adventure’s mission is to get children playing and exploring their local surroundings, such as the lakes, forests and mountains, with freedom yet in a safe environment. In order to be more active and unplug from their electronics, let’s get back to having some good old fashioned fun in the outdoors and let kids be kids again, getting dirty, muddy and wet!

Let’s face it, kids are spending more and more time on iPads, computers and watching television. Whilst we need to move forward with the technology that surrounds us, we also need to keep active in order to stay fit and get the most out of life. Studies show that kids are becoming more impatient, and showing an inability to think of creative, imaginative games to overcome their boredom. They want instant gratification in the form of entertainment they can engage in from the couch.

Sport and outdoor activities teach kids many different mental life skills such as self-confidence, resilience, perseverance, determination, mental toughness, teamwork, leadership, humble winning, gracious losing, patience, creativity, commitment… the list goes on. Wild Kat Adventures aims to develop these skills through a variety of activities throughout the week.

Without even realising it, kids participating in each activity will physically develop their balance, coordination, agility, core strength and gross motor skills, which in turn has been shown to lead to increased concentration, commitment and focus in everyday life.

Everything we do has some element of danger, varying from low to high risk. Learning to recognize and minimise those dangers is an essential life skill. Instead of shying away from all the things that kids like to do that could be unsafe, we need to let kids manage their own safety in order to have a better understanding of consequences and of the world at large.

WHAT’S INVOLVED!

Each day will bring a new adventure and new challenges and will be located either in the forest, at the river or by the lake.

Camp runs from 9am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday. Each day will have a different drop-off and pick up location depending on the activity. Lunch is not provided.

Children will be split into age groups and/or ability groups.

Forest days
Forest day will entail a variety of games and activities throughout the day that develops self-confidence, teamwork, resilience, determination, patience, humble winning, gracious losing. Children will work on their agility, stability and balance as they run through the forest on uneven ground, avoiding natural obstacles. We will build a shelter/fort allowing the children to be resourceful and creative while cooperating within a group. And what outdoor camp would be complete without building a fire and roasting marshmallows on it. Kids will learn how and where to safely build a fire, manage it and be sure it is completely out before leaving the site.

Lake day
Lake day starts with understanding the dangers of lakes and waterways and how to stay safe while enjoying the lake. Children will have a chance to paddleboard, kayak, build sand sculptures and just simply enjoy the water.
Your child can’t swim at all or not very well? No worries… We have life jackets to fit all sizes and keep a very good eye on all children throughout the day.

*Lake day may be replaced with another activity during the Easter camp depending on the weather.

Biking day
Biking day starts by splitting the children into ability groups so that the day can be adapted to the needs of the kids. The beginner and intermediate riders with work on improving their biking skills in a controlled environment, to enable kids to move into the forest in the afternoon and negotiate the natural paths and obstacles of the forest. The advanced riders will be challenged by an obstacle course, learning the importance of correct gearing, balance and steering.

Can’t ride a bike, no problem… Before camp starts we will be offering a biking master class course to enroll in and bump up your child’s skills and confidence before camp begins.

* Bikes are not provided by Wild Kat Adventures

River day
River day will include a small hike down to the river in Les Paccots. Once there, be ready to get wet! Wearing appropriate shoes we will explore the river scrambling over the rocks and through the water. Children will also have a chance to show their creativity by designing and making a small boat/raft out of leaves, twigs and branches and racing them down the river.

All days will be adapted to the age and ability within each group!

If this sounds like a fun way for your kid to spend a week of the summer…
